“Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God. For they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.” ~ 3 John‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬-‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

In this passage, we see John, referring to the people “who go out for the sake of the name.” Who is he referring to? He’s referring to those who spread the gospel. This could be missionaries, pastors, evangelists, and so forth.

He talks about sending those people forth on their journey. What does that mean? He’s talking about prayer and financial support. These workers are sent by the church through their prayers and giving so that they don’t have to be supported by the people they are seeking to evangelize. (That would be absurd.)

Like many other gospel workers, I have to raise my support. This support helps me focus on the mission and frees me so I can spend more time on the streets evangelizing. This support helps with ministry expenses and provides for my family. A majority of the mission work around the world is supported this way.

I thank God for those faithful senders that partner with me for the sake of the name. I invite you to join my sending team. Let’s talk if you are so led. Send me an email at ddavis@goeministries.org. Many thanks and God bless you.
